Some Not So Good Information
Students research and make kites in Physics and then test them.
Coventry High School recently went through an observation of their progress and did not meet the Adequate Yearly Progress. This means that they do not currently meet the standards of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Although this comes as bad news that might deter from sending a child to this school, you should know that the high school has a improvement plan in place and have specific guidelines they must meet. What does this mean to you? This means that Coventry High School is improving every day and every year. This also means that they have to meet high standards every year to get to adequate yearly progress. To help explain what is going to happen, an excerpt from InfoWorks Rhode Island:
Insufficient Progress:
These schools: a) have missed targets for at least two or more consecutive years;
b) missed more than 3 targets this year alone; and/or c) missed a target for school-wide scores this year.
Schools showing "Insufficient Progress" may be labeled "In Need of Improvement." Both the No Child Left Behind law and RI's state accountability stystem require that schools considered "In Need of Improvement" face certain consequences. In the case of schools that recieve ferderal Title I funds, the concequences get more severe each year a school continues to "need improvement." For these schools, new consequences or "sanctions," are added each year to the sanctions imposed in the previos years.
The sanctions are: Year 1 - Public School Choice: The school must send a letter to parents notifying them that their child is eligible to transfer to other schools in the district that are not in need of improvement. Year 2 - Supplemental Educational Services: The school must offer parents free tutoring for their children. Year 3 - Corrective Action: The district must choode from the following federally mandated improvement options: replace some of the school's staff, change the curriculum; appoint an expert to advise the school; extend the school day or school year; or change how the school is managed, introducing a charter-school operator, for example.

Conclusion
Set in a quaint, not so little town, Coventry High School is a good choice for your child to succeed in high school. Although Coventry did not make the mark for NCLB, the principle, Michael J. Hobin is determined to improve the school both academically and socially. Coventry High School is a place where kids can strive to learn in a nurturing environment that provides many extra curricular activities, AP and honors courses, and a Regional Career and Technical Center. With small student to teacher ratios of 10:1 students can learn easily and achieve academically. Although Coventry High School's teachers are required to have a minimum of three hours of common planning time each month, most put in countless hours a week of their own time facilitating sports or extra curricular activities and also helping students who need help academically. "The mission of Coventry High School is to challenge our students to meet high academic and ethical standards in a safeand supportive environment of mutual respect." (Mission statement 2011). According to the mission statement of Coventry High School, the school is a place where children can learn and be challenged. The principle, Michael J. Hobin, encourages communication between the teachers, students and parents. Coventry is a great choice for any child thinking about attending, and being a graduate, I think Coventry High School is a great choice to prepare students for college!
